The project officer for SEND Sierra Leone, Musa Sannoh has called on the leadership of the main opposition All people’s Congress (APC) to allow their elected officials especially the women to represent their constituents in the Well of Parliament for better representation.
He made the appeal during a day engagement with young women groups, ECSL manager Kono, Drivers union, Bike riders union, Send Sierra Leone Ambassadors, SIUDI representatives, District youth council, ONS, town chiefs and the media at the Kono district council hall on the project on the theme “promotion of peace and social cohesion through civic education at district level.”
The engagement according to him was part of the institution’s post-election activities which was geared towards strengthening women’s participation in politics and also accords them the opportunity to explain challenges they were faced with in the just conducted general elections that will serve as an impediment to their active participation in politics.
He added that the thirty percent quota representation given to women can only be achieved when the necessary support is given to the women at all quarters.
“Our primary responsibility is to ensure that the thirty percent representation opportunity given to the women by the government of Sierra Leone is achieved because we want to see the number of women participating in politics increased gradually in subsequent elections” he stated.
Mr Sannoh intimated that the decision of the All people’s Congress leadership of not part taking in the governance structure of Sierra Leone will in no doubt serve as a militating factor to achieving this goal.
He, therefore, pleaded with the leadership of the APC to allow their elected officials especially the women to participate in politics which according to him will influence more women in politics.
Musa Sannoh encouraged the leadership of the All people’s Congress to put the political indifferences aside and be nation focus for the benefit of all.
