The National Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone in collaboration with Rokel Commercial Bank on 18th August 2023 ended a day Competition at the Freetown Amusement Victoria Park.
The competition is mainly organizations to take the game of Scrabble to all Sierra Leoneans as they aim at spreading the sport in the entire Country and encourage more people to come and be part of the Sport.
This Year’s competition attracted 20 participants including beginners who were part of this year’s competition and the beginners proved well in the competition.
The Theme for this year’s competition is “TAKING SCRABBLE TO SIERRA LEONEANS” this was unanimously agreed upon after a meeting between a cross-section of members on both the NSASL and Rokel Commercial Bank.
After turf matches are played between the players Foday Fofonah won the Competition and went home with (2500) new Leones and the second position went to Ishamil Sesay who went home with (2000) New Leones and the third position went to Ibrahim Lahai and Bag home (1500) new Leones.
Christian Asgill the President of the National Scrabble Association said they are happy to complete other competitions for both beginners and senior Scrabblers in the Country, noting that the beginners struggle along the way but their presence in competition is something good for the Association.
He further that, the Association is working tirelessly to embark on taking the game of Scrabble to the Schools and see how best new athletes are going to be taping and joining the association.
The Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank Chrispin Gibson said as the bank the competition is to help the National Federation to help them spread the sport in the Country.
At the end of the Competition Certificates were issued to all participants who participated in the Competition.
