The support officer at the Trankoro police divisional headquarters in Koidu city Kono district chief superintendent of police Zainab Kamara has called on residents of Koidu city to supply the police with reliable information that will help to crack down on drug peddlers and abusers in the district.
The appeal came awake the spate of substance abuse especially Kush by large constituents of the young generation. The force according to her was ready to do more arrest and charge to court anyone found wanting of abusing drugs especially KUSH. This she said can only be achieved with the support of the community people by giving vital information to the Sierra Leone police force.
“Although the primary responsibility of the SLP is to protect lives and property of the citizens as enshrined in the constitution of Sierra Leone the police are not spirit to be present everywhere at the same time to perform that responsibility hence we highly depend on the community people for a smooth and successful operations,” CSP Kamara pleaded.
The Chief Superintendent of Police intimated that the police officers most times are not familiar with the environment due to what she called transfers protocols but with the help of the community people the force can eradicate some lawless behaviors in the community for the betterment of the district.
She assured the public that the force will not disclose the identity of anyone that will supply the police with reliable information that will lead to the apprehension of drug peddlers and abusers in the district.
Responding to questions from the audience, CSP Kamara explained that the duty of the police is to arrest, investigate and charge to court and it’s the decision of the court to either sentence or ask the offenders to pay fines.
On the side of the police personnel that will be found wanting of the misuse of narcotic drugs the law she said does not make provision for any police officer to go unpunished if found wanting of violating the law adding the law is not the respecter of anyone regardless of your position in society. She pleaded with those personnel who are in such act to deviate from it as any police officer (s) found wanting will be seriously punished by the law.
