Twenty one years old Ibrahim Kanu made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 in Freetown on two count charges ranging from Obtaining money by false pretences contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence on Thursday 12th January 2023 at wan word garage Wellington the western area in Freetown obtained the sum of four thousand Leones(4,000) from Alusine Conteh by falsely pretending that he will facilitate his travelling to United State of America knowing same to be false.
On count two on the 19th January 2023 at the said place obtained the sum of eleven thousand Leones(11,000) from the said complainant by falsely pretending that he will facilitate his travelling to the United States of America knowing same to be false.
Deputy Superintendent of police Osman M Bangura lead Prosecution witness number one Alusine Conteh an electrician said he recognized the accused person as a friend.
He recalled on the 12th January 2023 the accused person called him and informed him that he has opportunity for him.
So he requested for his documents including his certificates.
The witness said he forwarded it to the accused person through his WhatsApp number after two weeks the accused called him to meet him at his office.
Upon that he informed his brother Bobson Conteh to accompany him to meet the accused person in his office at Rokupa.
the witness said the accused person told him that they have to start the document process with four million Leones so he give the four million Leones to the accused person after three days he came with another amount of eleven million Leones at the said office.
The witness said the total amount was fifteen million Leones the witness said the accused person told him that he has to go for interview after two days they called him for the interview.
On the interview the people he met there told him to come with another two people the witness said he went back to his brother explained what transpired at the interview.
The witness said after four months he didn’t saw any way forward then they went to Wellington Police Post were he made statement by then the accused person`s phone was switched off later the accused person was apprehended by the police.
Counsel representing the accused person D.B Stack differ on his cross examination.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Kekura refused bail and adjourned the matter to the 15th August 2023.
