A staff of Koidu Limited Mining Company Alhaji Konoboy is reported dead after a pit at the aforementioned company mining site collapsed and fell on him and the machine he was operating.
Family sources say the deceased left home for work well but were surprised to be told that their son Alhaji Konoboy was dead as a result of a pit fall. Speaking to this medium, the elder brother of the deceased Aiah Foday maintained that the death of his younger brother is a big lost to the family.
He said his brother was very hard working and intelligent and as a result apart from the expertrates Alhaji Konoboy was the only local staff to operate the scoop machine interns of the operations of the Koidu Limited Mining Company.
“Although death is inevitable but I blame the supervisor of my younger brother for failing to observe what he called safety and preventive measures because prior to the death of Alhaji he told me that their site was very dangerous and risky and that he was ready to leave the job Aiah Foday explained.”
However, Aiah Foday thanked the management of the company for its interventions since his younger brother was declared clinically dead after looking for his remains for at least two days.
Ibrahim Turay is the head of Freetown office and Cooperate Affairs Koidu Limited Mining Company in a mobile phone interview with our Kono district correspondent he foremost maintained that the death of Alhaji Konoboy who he described as one of the company’s price assets as a big lost because he was the only local staff with the expertise of operating the scoop machine other than the expatriate. Mr Turay pointed out that since the news broke that a pit at the mining site has fallen on the deceased the company seized all its operations whilst the rescue team was fighting tooth and nail to locate Alhaji Konoboy, noting when the remains of the deceased were located by the rescue team all the necessary interventions as per the mining policies were fully observed including the burial ceremony.
He said as part of the company’s long term compensation to the bereaved family the company among many other interventions has decided to build a self-contained three bedrooms structure with a shop well stocked and a scholarship scheme that will benefit the five children of the deceased as far as Koidu Limited Mining Company operates in Kono district.
