For Stealing Samsung Mobile Phone…Bike Rider Remanded

Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 has remanded  a bike rider, Amidu Turay at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown for allegedly stealing a Samsung A12 mobile phone valued at three thousand Leones (NLe3,000) belonging to the complainant Patricia Yommie Newland.

Amidu Turay who was arrested on 15th June 2923 by Detective Police Constable 15095 Sesay P. L appeared before the court on a count of larceny in dwelling house contrary to section 13(a) of the Larceny Act of 1965.

The read that the accused on Sunday 11th June 2023 at No. 35 Upper Savage Square in Freetown, entered into the complainant’s house and stole a Samsung Galaxy A12 worth NLe3,000).

 Led in evidence by Sergeant 9874 M.M prosecution witness (PW) 1, Memunatu Turay residing at No. 35b Savage Square in Freetown said she knew the complainant as her neighbour and recognized him and recall Sunday 11th June 2023.

Memunatu Turay said the accused person asked her to give him food, adding that the later on the accused aided her to take some chairs to the complainant’s house while she was preparing for him.

PW1 said when she brought the food to the accused he was nowhere to be found. She continued that an unknown person told him that he saw the accused in rush going outside.

She said the complainant informed her that the accused have allegedly stolen her Samsung Galaxy A12 worth three thousand leones (NLe3,000), disclosing upon the receipt of the information, she and Madam Newland went to the accused’s parents and informed them about the incident.

The witness said they reported the matter to the Ross Road Police Station, Harbour Division in Freetown where she made a statement to the police. Subsequently she said the accused was arrested and taken to the said station.

The accused was not legally represented, but Magistrate Kekura accorded him an opportunity to cross examine the witness, he told the bench that he had no questions for her.

Magistrate Kekura denied the accused bail and remanded him at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.

The matter was adjourned to 9th August 2023 for further hearing.
