Planned Protest…SLP Arrests Senior Military Officers

In a shortest press conference even organized by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), the Director of Professional Standard Braima Jah and a press release dated 31st July, 2023 informed the general public that certain individuals including senior military are scheming to undermine the peace and tranquility of the country.

Upon the intelligence gathered, he further said that several arrests have been made and suspects are in custody assisting with investigations he said.

According to the release, preliminary investigations revealed that these individuals planned to use a purported peaceful protest between the 7th to the 10th August 2023, a repeat of the August 10th protest in 2022 as a way to unleash violent attacks against state institutions and peaceful citizens.

The security sector notes with dismay that despite continued efforts to consolidate the peace and democratic gains of the country, to which there are individuals at home and abroad that continue to undertake actions meant to derail the peace of the country.

The security sector encourages the public to keep the peace and be calm that situations of repeat of August 10th will never happen, and for members of the public to report any suspicious activities of the appropriate authorities.

No questions were entertained from the press after the reading of the press release.
