The Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu has received a six man African Union (AU) team who are in the country to conduct assessment for the deployment of the 5th Form Police Unit (FPU-5) in the Africa  Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Receiving the team, IGP Sellu informed that having completed training and waiting the AU assessment, the batch was used for several interventions especially during the elections.

Responding to sentiment of the positive performance of SLP in the mission theatre, Mr Sellu stated that was what they were trained to be.

“Being out there in the mission theatre, we look at two things, the image of your institution and the country. While you are out there, you are lifting the flag of your country and not your personal self, so that is why you have to be very careful because whatever you do there, reflects on the country and the organization” said the IGP.

Earlier, the Head of the team who double as head of Peace Support Operations Division, Mr. Zinurine Abiodu Alghali informed that they are here to assess the FPU-5 as part of their redeployment verification assessment to ensure that the personnel deploy are well trained and equipped for the task they would undertake in line with the mandate of the mission.

He disclosed that out there in the mission theatre, people talk very highly of the SLP.

“It is good accolades that SLP deploys good equipment’s and highly professional officers as the best to achieve the mandate of deployment” he said, adding that he chose to come with the team, so that he can be part of the process and interact with the personnel.
