At their Bo office located at HANCI road, Street Child SL helped vulnerable families. The help came in the form of cash to either start a business or improve on existing one. The section chief, officials from Ministries of Social Welfare and Basic Education graced the occasion. The beneficiaries were admonished to “handle the money with some caution”. This is so that the education of their kids is well taken care of and they don’t drop out of school.
One hundred and fifty – five (155) families benefited from Bo, and across Sierra Leone 1000 families benefited. They are referred to as base beneficiaries and each receives Nle.1200 plus extra Nle 100 per sibling.
Before receiving the money they were taught on business skills coupled the essence of saving by the Family Business Officer. On her part, the Program Coordinator of Street Child Bo, Hawa Samia admonished the parents to be careful and creative with the money ” so that it can help them keep their kids in school”, that at the end of the day they want to see these children remain in school until completion. It is part of complementing government’s free quality education.
