Sierra Leone’s experienced politician and Presidential Spokesperson for both former and current President, Dr Alpha Khan has for the sake of peace and development admonished the leader and flagbearer of the main opposition APC party Dr. Samura MW Kamara to accept defeat and understand that the international community cannot fix Sierra Leone but only the Sierra Leoneans.
Dr Khan officially sent that strong message to not only the leader of the party but holistically to the All People’s Congress APC Party in a live interview with the Green Movement online Television.
Speaking highly on the religious background of Dr. Samura Kamara whom he said does attend the same church with His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.
Dr. Khan described Samura as a highly religious and selfless man with a peaceful character. He expressed that he could envision Dr Samura’s great passion for ruling his people but said he should understand that the majority had chosen President Bio over him based on the experience of the people in the last five years.
Alpha Khan explained that President Bio is equally a selfless President who had extended an invitation to especially the leader of the main opposition party Dr Kamara to work with him and develop the country. Khan described President Bio’s Government as an inclusive Government that had the highest number of young people and the highest number of women in parliament. “President Bio has brought home the 30 per cent quota for women which has given an opportunity for a total number of 41 women representatives in this year’s parliament”, Khan stated.
As a peaceful Muslim, Alpha Khan believed that peace is the lowest common multiple for any country to thrive. He expressed that he grew to appreciate President Bio more and more based on the peace he brought to the country. He said President Bio means every word when he said people from the opposition and all works of life should come and join them to work. “I was a spokesman for APC and Ernest Bai Koroma, a minister, ambassador and more but President Bio still looked at me and called me to work with him”, Dr. Khan revealed.
On that basis, Alpha Khan personally appealed to Dr. Samura Kamara whom he described as not a wicked but a prayerful man. He extendedly appealed to their Parish Priest and the head of Roman Catholic church in Sierra Leone to use their divine and call President Bio and Dr. Samura Kamara to talk to them. DR. Khan furthered that when any unforeseen incident happens to Sierra Leone, the international community, especially the Europeans and the Americans would only be interested to come and evacuate their citizens, not the Sierra Leoneans. “So don’t allow that to happen because Sierra Leone is the only country that we are welcome without restrictions”, Dr. Khan reiterated.
Dr. Alpha Khan emphasized that the international community would not fix it but they as Sierra Leoneans would definitely fix it. He revealed that all of the things that normally happen in Sierra Leone in terms of elections do happen everywhere. Dr. Khan went on to cite the controversies in the American election which he said those issues were still on. Just like in America, Khan said Sierra Leone needed a President and a good captain with experience.
As a friend, a brother and someone whom he said they had a working relationship with, Khan admonished Samura not to jump ahead his destiny but to allow the systematic process and that echo to carry on. He said Samura had been there as a statesman, as a minister and even a technocrat in the World Bank and IMF with good connections and went on saying he should not be a reason for any negative thing to happen in the country. Khan recalled that President Bio and Samura had worked together, serving the country in trying times and expressed hope for history to repeat itself.
