The Director of External Relations at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Albert Massaquoi has said that the 2023 election results could be announced six days after polling day.
The Director of ECSL Mr Mohamed Kinney made this statement during the Pentecostal Fellowship for Sierra Leone Launch of elections Volunteer Observers and Peace Advocators Mission at Sapphire Court, Off Kingharmann Road in Freetown.
In his words, he said, “According to our laws, the earliest for certified elections result is six days”.
He added that the time might elapse due to normal glitches that occur in elections like recounting.
He assured locals of the Commission’s commitment to ensure the election go on as planned on Saturday peacefully.
The ECSL Director also revealed that election materials have already been moved to districts escorted by security and election observers.
He said manual counting will be done in all 11,832 polling stations across the country refuting allegations of fraud with regard to the use of technology. Massaquoi affirmed that results will first be compiled at the polling station before moving to district and regional tally centres.
