Star Sports Football Academy has on 15th June 2023 updated Journalists on the trip made to Senegal. The Press Conference took place at the Secretariat 88 Pademba Road in Freetown.
When giving the rationale behind the trip to Senegal, Mustapha Turay, Director of Operations Star Sports Academy stated that the trip was for talent exposure and concluded that even though the trip was challenging a few of the players were scouted.
The Team Manager of Star Sports Football Academy, Musa Pokuwa said they had a successful tryout in Senegal and admitted to some challenges they faced during their journey.
He affirmed that the Senegalese trip was a bittersweet experience because out of twenty-two players selected for the trip, only nine were able to enter Senegal due to documentation issues.
He said that nine out of the twenty-two players with passports were allowed to board a flight to Senegal, while the thirteen players were issued Emergency Travel Certificates to travel by land to Senegal.
He pointed out that some players were scouted from Star Sports Academy and a possible partnership with the organizers of the Detect Management tournament is in the pipeline. He confirmed to the press that Star Sports Academy will be organizing a youth tournament in Sierra Leone where eight countries’ teams will be participating. He noted that the tournament was an eye-opener for the young lads although some of them were a bit frightened being their first international outing, thus, they were able to cope.
The Head Coach of Star Sports Academy, Tamba Ngongou, stated that the performances of the nine players were impressive and concluded that the nine players who took part in the tournament did extremely well to showcase themselves. Noted that the team is currently bracing up for the tournament ahead and the boys are ready to represent their Country.
