Development and peace promotion organization, Coalition of Civil Societies and Human Rights- Sierra Leone (CCSHRA-SL) has issued a strong-worded press release condemning the flag bearer of the main opposition All People’s Congress Party (APC), Dr Samura Wilson Kamara who on Wednesday threatened that his party will not accept the Presidential result if it does not favour them.
The release referred to his comment during this week’s press briefing at the Brookfield’s Hotel as a proclamation of victory by Dr Kamara himself before the conduct and official announcement of the result.
“This statement is subject to many interpretations and has the tendency to cause violence after the pronouncement of results by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) which has the constitutional mandate to conduct elections and announce the results’, the release stated.
Chairman of the organization, Charles Mambu has said they as human rights activists, are highly disturbed by such a statement. He called on all Election Management Bodies to exhibit high standard of neutrality in the conduct of their mandates which is to conduct free, fair, open and transparent elections. He said the destiny, safety and prosperity of the country are in the hands of all Sierra Leoneans, noting that people should agree and disagree but the security of the state must not be compromised in the name of politics.
CCSHRA-SL has analyzed that the APC has won power in the country before and the party took power smoothly without any party disturbing them.
