The Director of Operations of the Sierra Leone Police Mr Braima Jah has on the 8th June 2023 at the SLP headquarters Conference hall updated members of the press on the daily happenings and security operations across the country with the aim of maintaining peace and safe haven for all Sierra Leoneans.
According to him, there has been issuance of social media threats of protests, and unrest on civilians across the country as we approach the June 24th 2023 elections.
He said the police have apprehended suspects involved in creating such. He maintained that citizens should be politically tolerant and obey the rule of law or face the full force of the law.
Mr Ibrahim Joseph Lahai Director of Crime Services disclosed that on Tuesday 6th June 2023, at Fala Check point, a group of people led by Mr sheriff bulldozed the check point to which was considered as a security breach and were chased and arrested at Bo city and discovered items such as a Revolver pistol was found in possession of Mr Sheriff, pepper spray, military attires such as military boots, and uniforms, a head face mask, a giant pen knife, batons and a compass.
Suspects were brought and paraded during the press conference, Director of Crime Services said investigations are ongoing.
He furthermore spoke of the US citizen by the name of Mr Boma who according to police when questioned said he wants to open a security company in Sierra Leone but was intercepted at the Lungi International Airport with 3 fire arms, a magazine containing 15 rounds live bullets.
He went on that investigations are being carried out of his business interest that he is being charged with unlawful possession of fire arms, that whoever wants to walk around with a fire arms must do so following due process of the law.
Mr Lahai continued that on the same date Sgt Bangura and team attached at the portee checkpoint during the normal routine check intercepted a kekeh and during the course of the search one Dayomie Ogurimefun Ademokula of old wharf found one Uarsx with a magazine containing 15 live rounds bullets, one black mask, combat boot, black trousers and black jacket were discovered.
Mr Lahai said based on the arrest a search warrant was conducted at suspect’s resident and the following items were discovered One Military Combat T-Shirt, One Military Cap, One black dagger, safe key, one military combat suit and one Samsung galaxy A-52 mobile phone.
He also stated that on the same date the Waterloo division led by Septimus Vandy conducted a raid and the following items were discovered, large quantity of Dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, a compressor machine, bags of imported fertilizers, water pumping machine and a host of other equipment used in the cultivation and processing at the said compound wherein a Ghanaian national by the name of Olu Shayi and two others namely Hawanatu Jusu, and Popay Jina were also arrested at the said compound wherein they claimed ownership of where the said items were discovered.
Furthermore to this he said three robberies were recorded last month to which suspects of these crimes have been arrested and detained.
Three Armed robbers and three receivers have been arrested.
On the said date these suspects stole from different victims namely Ndye Njie of lightfoot Boston street, and Justice Alfred Tommy Ganda of the High Court to which an iPhone 11 promax was discovered along with the two missing laptops that belonged to Justice Alfred, investigations are ongoing he said.
Mr Briama Jah concluded that a Joint SLP and RSLAF manning of checkpoints and STATIC MAC P deployment across the country are ongoing smoothly, and that election campaigns are adequately policed as he said there has been no concerns or issues raised. He cautioned all to be law abiding and maintain peace.
