Following the launching of the five-bullet points manifesto of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in Kenema on Tuesday when the political campaign officially commenced, one of the oldest and most experienced leading Civil Society Activists, Charles Mambu who happens to be the Chairman, Board of DirectorsInfrastructure for Development has commended President DDrJulius Maada Bio for the promises contained in his Manifesto.
He said manifestos are materials in the civil society arena used to hold the government accountable after the elections. He called on other political parties to rap up with their manifesto documents and present them to the people of Sierra Leone who have the onus to read through them and see what the contesting political parties have for the country.
He referred to the newly released manifesto as promises he believes the President will deliver if voted into office for another term.
” The area of feeding the nation, providing jobs for the youths and more importantly he has promised us a massive infrastructural boost if his wins are things citizens are truly yearning for”, he noted, adding that the President achieved most of the things he promised in 2018 though there were challenges. He said CSOs have a responsibility to support the government to achieve its goals which means good for the country in respective of tribe, religion or region.
He urged other political parties to launch their manifestos as soon as possible reminding them that in less than thirty days, the country will get into elections which determine our next rulers.
It could be recalled that launching his manifesto, President Bio said,
“The fifth initiative is a TECHNOLOGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMME to serve as PATHWAYS FOR SUSTAINED ECONOMIC GROWTH. The SLPP will accelerate its inclusive growth agenda by investing more in infrastructure, technology and digitisation.
Fellow Citizens, making progress in these key areas will set Sierra Leone on a sustainable path of transformational change, poverty reduction and resilience in the face of external shocks. The June 24th election is critical in our country’s history. Voters will elect the leader and the political party best suited to steer our country through the current challenges and towards lasting transformation.
I assure you that Julius Maada Bio and the great SLPP are best suited to continue our New Direction agenda, consolidate our gains, and accelerate the social and economic transformation for a better Sierra Leone – PAOPA SALONE MUST BETTEH”.
