Sierra Leone Female Under 20 side (Shooting Starlets) on 16th May 2023 has departed for Kenema ahead of their WAFU tournament that is set to kick-off on the 21st May 2023.
A delegation of 22 players and 14 officials have left Freetown this morning for the Eastern Region City of Kenema where the Sierra Leone Female U20 team will be camped in preparation for the West Africa Football Union competition ahead.
The team has been in intensive training ahead of the tournament for the past three weeks and the players are selected from the just concluded Maiden Edition of the Female Premier League in the Country. There is much expectation from the players to fly the Green, White and Blue in the tournament being that it is hosted in Sierra Leone.
The Sierra Leone Football Association early this state that 8 Countries including the host Sierra Leone set to take part in the WAFU tournament at home wherein two venues have been choosing where these matches are going to be hosted.
Zanetti Mansaray The coach of the national under-20 side reaffirmed his commitment to selecting deserving players for the final squad.
“The girls are ready for the showpiece. I have seen their performances since we started training on Monday and deserving players will form part of the final squad that will be ready for camping over the weekend”, he said.
Coach Mansaray added: “I believe the selected girls would want to make a name for themselves and the nation as a whole.”
The 2023 WAFU Zone A U-20 Women’s Cup is the upcoming first edition of the WAFU Zone A U-20 Women’s Championship and will be contested by nine Member Association countries in the Zone of which Sierra Leone is the host.
The competition commences on the 22nd of May this year and will be staged in Bo and Kenema.
