A cross-section of female police officers from the Sierra Leone Police Female Leaders Association (SLPFLA) visited the Harbour Police Divisional Headquarters on Friday 5th May 2023 to sensitize female police personnel of the Freetown-East region about the need to work as a team for the development of female personnel in the force.
Giving a brief historical background about the formation of the association, the Regional Coordinator for Western Area CSP Jenevieve Tity Cowan, encouraged all female officers to develop a positive mentality of empowering themselves through talents or skills development, and educational acquirement.
Referencing herself as the first female police Ph.D. holder, the Vice President of SLPFLA, Superintendent Fatmata Kanko Kamara urged all female personnel to start developing driving skills and to undertake many other educational courses as many leadership opportunities for female personnel are in the pipeline. She encouraged all female officers to embrace the association’s goals of empowering women and emulate good examples by saying “What men can do, women can do it best”.
However, she warned all personnel to maintain good disciplinary standards and stop fighting each other for position, posting, or promotion.
In responding to various questions, the team encouraged all members to attend the general meeting that would shortly commence where detailed planning for the association will be done.
The LUC of Harbour Police Division CSP Kpulun thanked the team for reviving the association and assured personnel of reaping great benefits from the association through their active participation.
