Dr. Yealie Kargbo attached to the Ross Road Dental clinic has advised citizens that they should check their teeth every six months.
Of the world’s population, 90% will suffer from oral diseases in their lifetime.
In an exclusive interview with Doctor Yealie Kargbo of the Ross Road Dental Clinic, she explained to A-Z newspaper that one of the causes for tooth decay is when you consume food and drink high in carbohydrates, particularly sugary foods and drinks, the bacteria in plaque turn the carbohydrates into energy they need, producing acid at the same time. She further stated that the acid can break down the surface of your tooth, causing holes known as cavities.
Doctor Kargbo maintained that, no sooner a cavity developed in your tooth then, it allows food substance to settle in the hole, which will eventually decay and produce offensive odor in the mouth.
She admonished people especially parents to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss regularly, visit their dentists routinely for a checkup. She admonished people that they should tell their dentists about any medical conditions they have and medications they take.
Doctor Kargbo also advised people to eat a well-balanced diet, and at the same time quit smoking, as smoking increases their risk for gum disease.
