Six towns including Kabala in Koinadugu District will soon get effective water supply as the ministry is working relentlessly to reinstall damaged pipes due to the previous road construction activities.

Minister of Water Resources, Eng. P.K. Lansana, has assured that the district will have sufficient water after finishing works on the Musaia embankment and replacing damaged pipes.

He said the ministry is sensitive to the importance of water that is why they have been using the short term approach by way of digging bore holes and using the community water services approach which has helped to reduce the shortage of water in many communities across the country, the Minister noted.

He added that since he became Minister, he and the team have been going on inspection tour to ascertain the facts so that action can be taken.

He said they discovered that the reason why there is complaint is water shortage in hospitals, is as a result of internal plumbing issues which he said has been brought to the attention of their Engineers.

The ministry has commissioned taps in Aberdeen and Kingtom as part of their pilot project as the country joined the world to commemorate World Water Day, March 22nd, on the theme Valuing Water.

The attention of government has been drawn to the high spate of illegal human activities in water catchment areas which is partly responsible for water shortage.

However, the ministry has expressed the need for a second dam to back up the main one at Mile 13 which will generate enough rain water for the consumption of the people.
