Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.1 on Tuesday 11th April 2023, granted Denis Koroma Le 300 million bail on the alleged importation of firearms and prohibited drugs to the country.
The accused Denis Koroma is standing trial for four count offences of possession of firearms, transfer of firearms without license, importation of prohibited drugs, and unlawful possession of cannabis sativa contrary to law.
According to the particulars of offence, on Monday 13th March, 2023 at Queen Elizabeth ii Quay Freetown, the accused was found in possession of one black and silver colour Taurus Brinbridge pistol with serial number ACK 409049 G3c 19times19 and 11 rounds of ammunition without license.
Count two states that on Tuesday 6th December 2022, and Monday 13th March 2023 at the same place, the accused transferred from Philadelphia United States of America to Freetown, Sierra Leone a firearm with the aforesaid pistol and ammunition without a license.
Count three and four indicated that on the same day and place, the accused was found in possession and imported a prohibited drug to wit cannabis sativa weighing 50.0 grams.
The prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim S Mansaray told the bench that his witness was absent.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Ngegba granted the accused person bail in the sum of three hundred thousand New Leones with two sureties in like sum sureties should have property worth two hundred thousand new Leones both sureties to produce the new voter’s identity card and the bail to be verified by the Bench and to be approved by the Master and registrar of the High Court. The matter was adjourned to the 28th of April 2023 for further hearing.
