Ten Ahmadiyya Pupils Arrested for Riotous Conduct

The Police Media boss in Bo district Southern Region, Inspector Mohamed Bobson Senu has disclosed that over ten Pupils of the Tahir Ahmadiyya Secondary School have been arrested for offences ranging from riotous conduct to malicious damage of a police operation vehicle belonging to the Bo West Police Division.

According to him, there was a running battle on Tuesday afternoon between the Police and the pupils of the Tahir Ahmadiyya Secondary School in Bo. The Police are said have obstructed a raid on a ghetto in the neighborhood of the said School.

Inspector Senu disclosed that community members including the principal of the said school had raised concern about the ghetto that the pupils frequented to smoke narcotics substances and play gamble.

  Inspector Senu said in order to access the ghetto in question, the police had to use the school compound to execute their lawful duty  but they were barred from doing so. The pupils resorted to pelting stones at the police and they initially arrested 8 of the pupils.

He said the police called for reinforcement from the Eastern Police Division and 13 pupils were again arrested at the height of pelting stone. A-Z Newspaper gathered that  some of the police officers sustained minor injuries.

Inspector Senu said that some parents of the pupils are now at the police pleading on behalf of their children but the pupils are in their custody helping them in with investigations.

One of the School Teacher, Amid Deen Mambu said that everyday a set of class will play a football match against the other class, adding that it was during the football match that the police entered the compound and arrested one pupil, whom the police claimed to be among the bad boys linked to the ghetto that they went to raid.

Another teacher who is also part of the Examination Committee, Nabieu Mustapha, said that the riot took place just after the pupils have taken their internal examination and that the examination will continue as planned.
