The Chieftaincy election in Yiegbeda Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono district has claimed the life of a fifteen year old pupil of Aladura Secondary School in Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District. Francis Komba Jimmy is the victim.
This was disclosed to our correspondent by the Local Unit Commander of the Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters Superintendent of Police Franklyn Bawoh.
Resident Minister of Eastern Region Mr. Fatorma visited the town to address the said election violence that resulted to the alleged killing of the boy and to further perform funeral rites to the bereaved family for the loss of their son.
The Police Boss of Tankoro Divisional Headquarters maintained that out of the engagement with the Resident Minister in Yiegbeda town they found out that the reported election violence cannot be unconnected with the fracas between the Paramount chief of Nimikoro Chiefdom P.C Aiah Denton Bona and his chiefdom Speaker Abdulai Komasi.
He noted that whilst they were in Yiegbeda town, it was highly speculated that those involved in the killing might be the supporters of the Speaker as he was against the candidate that won the said election but his son Francis Komba Jimmy was eventually killed.
LUC Bawoh pointed out that before the Resident Minister and his entourage left Yiegbeda town, the speaker and those suspected to be behind the reported election violence were in very strong terms cautioned to give peace a chance and allow the police to investigate the reported murder matter.
Whilst re-echoing the statement of the resident minister to the people of Yiegbeda to be law abiding, L.U.C Bawoh said they are using professional skills to thoroughly investigate the matter as Yiegbeda is notorious for election violence. He said anyone found culpable in the reported killing incident will face the full penalty of the law.
Meanwhile, the Children Forum Network in Kono District has in a press release condemned the incident that happened in Yiegbeda town, Nimikoro Chiefdom – Kono District.
The press release further stated that the children of Kono District through the children’s Forum Network have expressed grave dissatisfaction over what they called the unending perpetrating of violence against children within the district especially on the said issue. The forum has therefore called on the prompt attention and intervention of the civil society organizations, Human Right Coalition, the Judiciary, and other law enforcement bodies to investigate the reported killing in order to bring to book those responsible for the ruthless killing of their colleague Francis Komba Jimmy.
