Some road users and residents of towns and villages along the Kono Freetown highway are disturbed by the misuse of some Bus stop shelters constructed along the highway.
It has been disclosed that the then A.P.C led government thought it prudent to have the bus stop shelters for road users to either drop off or wait for vehicles for their respective destinations and also protect them from unfriendly weather conditions.
It is however unfortunate that these bus stop shelters have been grossly misused. It has been observed that these bus stop shelters have been converted into something else including the transaction of petty business and storage of farm products and bags of charcoal.
Sources say at night the the roadside shelters have been converted into brothels.
They pointed out that for the two bus stop shelters at Ngaiya Junction in Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District; a madman has transformed them into his wardrobe and bedroom thereby preventing people from meaningfully using the structures.
Meanwhile those who spoke to our correspondent on the issue have called on people dwelling by the said shelters especially local authorities to monitor the meaningful use of the bus stop shelters as they were constructed with funds provided by the government of Sierra Leone. They further suggested that for revenue generation purposes let the city and District councils be collecting money from people who sell in the shelters rather than the structures abandoned to reckless use.
