Njala University Confer Degrees On 646 Academics

On Saturday, 18th March 2023 at the forecourt of the university campus at Mokonde deserving students gathered to receive their higher degrees ranging from masters to doctorates. The ceremony was colourful and attended by ministers of government, principals of other government and private universities and members of the diplomatic and consular corps. Among the 646 graduands, 7 received doctorate degrees. The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mohamed Syed Fofanah told the graduands that ” graduation is the start of your dreams”. And that as graduands they are going out to tackle the problems of the working world. He warned them that there is no longer a” job for life ” and therefore should not be complacent with what they have achieved.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma reminded the gathering of the theme of this year’s higher degrees conferment which was “Enhancing Operational Efficiency for Post-Graduate School”. That the university is going to embark on intensification of research performance.

Prof Bashiru Mohamed Koroma told the gathering that going forward they are going to embark on ” teaching, research and community service”. That the university is going to focus on “outcome-based education”. The Chancellor of Njala University, Sahr Moses Ngevao took us through the background of the university.

That it was founded in 1964 and had an affiliation with Illinois University in the United States of America. And that Bonthe Technical College will be fully integrated into Njala University with specific courses. And that they will be tapping the grid from Bo for an effective and consistent power supply. He went further to say that they will be seeking public-private partnerships for the growth of the university.

The Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sarjoh Aziz Carew was proud to say that Njala University “is an incubator of excellence”. And as a government, they plan to expand access to higher education. The event was climaxed by the conferment of higher degrees on all 646 Post- graduands by Professor Sahr Ngevao (Chancellor). Dr. Adonis About made a special award to the best male and female graduands plus a cash donation of Le. 2,000,000(old Leones) each. And a vote of thanks was given by the public orator, Dr Saidu Challay.
