Mighty Blackpool Football has on 21st March 2023 defeats Freetonians SLIFA Football Club by two goals to one (1-2) to close the gap on League leaders and Current Champions Bo Rangers in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League.
They start with a pace play from the two teams, as informed by Striker Kabba Tucker to the lead in the 44th minute of play in the first half as they held on til the break.
Freetonians SLIFA enjoy the bulk of possession and had many chances but failed to convert any to get a goal as the match went to the end of half-time.
After recess, both teams return for the continuation of the second half, Freetonians SLIFA looks more determined to get the equalizing goal and possibly get the win, but clinically they were not business minded in the final third, players like Abu Dumbuya had a promising chance that could level terms but missed it, and in the (74) minutes Bureh G.Koroma get the second goal in the second half and double the lead for his side Mighty Blackpool.
Freetonians SLIFA’s continuous pressure towards the closing stages helps them greatly as get a free kick and Idrissa Sesay converted the spot kick as he make it (1-2).
Speaking after the match Alusine Bala Kargbo the head coach of Mighty Blackpool said the win is vital to the team as they keep their fights for the title race.
” Freetonians SLIFA have a strong side It was a difficult match, and I was expecting it to be a turf match they have a good squad, but we take our chances in the match that help us to get all three points.”
He called on all fans of Mighty Blackpool to rally behind the team in the second rounds of the league, as the team is going to fight for the champions trophy.
Abdul Karim the Assistant Coach 1 of Freetonians SLIFA said the defeats is disappointing for the club considering the way the team dominate the match from the first half to the second half, but they have learnt their lesson in the first rounds of the league and that is going to be changed in the second rounds of the league and more players are going to be required to add to the current squads.
He called on the fans to believe in the team as they are going to be different squads in the second phase of the Premier league.
Mighty Blackpool now has thirty- five points as they register their tenth win of the season (D5, L2), scoring as many goals as FC Kallon (24).
Freetonians SLIFA has suffered back-to-back defeats for the second time this season, going into the second round with twenty points (9th).
The Premier League Board said the league expected to return in two weeks.
