Lawyer Emmanuel Saffa Abudullai breaks the news about the death; it is even a murder based on the circumstance surrounding the demise of Lecturer Arthur Smith of blessed memory.

Hear the Facebook account of the lawyer: Mr. Arthur Smith has been my friend for the last twenty years. He was my teacher as he taught me many of the genres of literature at FBC’s English Language Department. Few months ago, Mr Smith and I ran into each other on campus. He was excited to see me and complained that my office people always asked him for appointments when he visited. I told him just call me, but he had lost my number. He wanted some legal help with his estate/inheritance… however I realized that every time he mentioned the estate he whispered as if afraid of something. Friday, 12 March, 2021, he walked into my office to talk about his estate/inheritance. He was quite okay, after our meeting we both walked down the road and parted ways. Never to see again…

You should be feeling the chill running the spine. Even the sadist can but commiserate with the victim. Those who know the late man can attest to his harmlessness but stern character in driving his passionate feelings. In college, as a student, I passed through his prose lectures as an elective. To say he is thorough in his area is an understatement. He is therefore a huge loss to the country.

The circumstance of this death is creepy and it has already been adjudged in the realm of public opinion. The social media facebook comments of those who have passed through Mr Smith are so emotive. Such comments are reaching heaven to invoke the wrath of God in exposing the killers.

One Vero Kay had this to say: This is such a sad ending for a kind and selfless man like Mr. Smith. How I wish we were in a country where there are proper systems in place to conduct some genuine investigations that would bring this killers to face the law, but ooh yah in mama salone is sad. Rest well sad sir.

The Police for once is challenged to show professionalism in proving this murder. Too many loose ends to provide a lead. It is not an armed robbery by any means. Smith was not a materialistic man to have amassed artefacts that some rogues are supposed to break in his house tie him up and asphyxiate him with some noxious substance.

This is not one of such cases that must be consigned to ‘buff case’ because our systems are so weak and inept in terms of investigating mysterious murder. In the first instance, the Fourah Bay College administration must take lead in the investigation. We need a  Corona inquest to piece together the bits and pieces of information surrounding the murder and connect the jig-saw puzzle.

In this country where we still have dark manipulative hands pulling dastardly strings to commit felonious offenses, it is high time the Police resisted their bribes; drag them to court when caught. We are following this story with keen interest!
