As year the 2022 is coming to an end, Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society (WAVES) Sierra Leone is summing up its advocacy engagements with a three-day training of Civil Society Organizations on the ratification of conflicting clauses in the three gender laws and the child rights act; under the “concerted action for zero tolerance against SGBV in the Mano River Region” Project.
According to the Communications Officer of WAVES- SL, Alusine Rogers, the purpose of this engagement is to share experiences on the effects of conflicting clauses in the three gender laws, raise awareness among CSOs on the gender justice laws and Child Rights Act and Ratification of the said laws by duty bearers in promoting, preventing and upholding the rights of children, and PLWDs as enshrined in the respective national policies and laws in their Communities.
Mr. Rogers said that CSOs are one of the front lines of the Anti-GBV campaign, and that Just like WAVES-SL, these human right defenders also empower women and children, collaborate on prevention and intervention, and collectively advocate to creating a safe and enabling policy environment for men and women, boys and girls.
Civil society activists commended WAVES for engaging on a three-day training of Civil Society Organizations on the ratification of conflicting clauses in the three gender laws and the child rights act; under the “concerted action for zero tolerance against SGBV in the Mano River Region” Project.
They said these laws are key and needed thorough advocacy to create a safe space for the women and girls, and called on the donors of WAVES to increase their funding to WAVES so that they will continue with their engagement with civil society next year.
