Woman 21, Docked for Mobile Theft Allegation

21 years old Mariama Thomas has appeared before Magistrate Sahr Keikura of Pademba road court in Freetown on two count charges to wit Conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to law, Larceny contrary to section 2 of the larceny Act 1916.

According to the charge sheet the accused Mariama Thomas on the 30th January 2021 at Congo Town area in Freetown, conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit Larceny and did steal by trick one Lenovo tablet mobile phone, one itel 12 mobile phone and one ear phone property of Esther Emrica James.

Police witness Detective Sergeant Zainab Sankoh attached to the C.I.D Congo Cross police station in Freetown, testified that she knew the accused person and recognized the complainant in this matter. She recalled on the 30th of January 2021 she was on duty when the complainant arrested and brought the accused person to Congo Cross police station. The complainant made report against the accused person.

The complainant alleged that the accused person stole her Lenovo tablet phone and Itel 12 mobile phone. She said the complainant produced a stone that was wrapped in a cigarette gold paper  and alleged that the said stone was diamond. The detective said she obtained statement from complainant and her witness.

“I took the sad stone and I handed it to the exhibit clerk for registration and for safe keeping. On the same day herself and detective inspector Rugiatu Sesay obtained statement from the accused person,” the witness testified.

The accused person was not legally represented matter adjoined to 19th March 2021.
