SLP Vindicates SLPP over Belgium Riot Saga

Over the recent chaotic unrest that happened at Belgium Ground, the top leadership of the Sierra Leone Police has yesterday in a press conference held at its Headquarters, vindicated the Sierra Leone People’s party (SLPP) over an allegation made by cross-section of Belgium Seller that Supporters of the ruling SLPP party were involved in melee that erupted.

The Sierra Leone Police also disclosed that thirty-three arrests have been made so far in connection with the Belgium incident of which two are females and thirty-one males, who are currently in police cell pending investigation.

In his address, the inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police Dr. Ambrose Suvula said that on the 4th of March 2020, the Sierra Leone police responded to public order incidence that occurred at Belgium Ground, Lightfoot Boston Street Freetown which attracted the intervention of himself and her deputy.  Dr. Suvula added that had they not intervened into the situation at Belgium, the incidence would have degenerated into a situation that would have the tendency to undermine the national security of the state.

He further stated that the Sierra Leone police would not sit by and allow such happenings to result to the days of the rebel war.  He vehemently condemned the Belgium unrest adding that, such situation would not auger well for the development of the nation.

 He continued that after the incident at Belgium, his administration took some tangible steps geared towards addressing the root cause of the problem by putting few measures in place.

Dr. Suvula also said that he formed a team that were tasked with the responsibility to investigate complaints from all aggrieved parties confirming that, the investigation is still ongoing. He said the Sierra Leone police has replaced Marshalls attached at political party offices with the Sierra Leone police in order to police those party offices. He disclosed that temporal police posts have been opened at the two main political party’s offices.

“All this is in a bid to sanitize the situation to bring decency and we have to live like decent people in the country. We did not stop there, we thought the aggrieved personalities those who thought that they should not abide by the law were always on the street even when we must have spoken to them. So what was the next step was for me to open another temporal police post at the Belgium sellers location and as I am talking they are still there”, he concluded
