All is now set for the commencement of this year’s Kono Conference in December on the theme: “ Education and Agriculture”which will take place at the Thomas Saquee resource centre in Koidu City.
This was disclosed in a stakeholders planning meeting of the conference organized by the council of paramount chiefs Kono District at the Gbense Native administrative Barry back of the Koidu Community football field on Thursday 6th October 2022. The paramount chief of Tankoro Chiefdom Kono District PC Paul Gabba Saquee chaired the meeting.
In his remarks, he recalled that the idea of establishing the Kono Conference was born by some Kono natives based in the Diaspora to effect Unity and love among the Konos. Chief Saquee noted that the first Kono Conference was held in London whilst the second meeting was also held in Washington D.C. He said it was during the second Kono Conference when the participant unanimously accepted organizing the conference at home rather than in the Diaspora.
He said this year’s Kono Conference will focus on Education and Agriculture which will start from the 14th– 17th December. He said the theme was carefully selected to change the present status quo of the District as he put it the District is without a BSC holder in either Chemistry or Physics while plans are afoot to have a university of science in the district a situation he described as worrisome.
Meanwhile, members of the Kono conference have planned to fully go into Agriculture and education as mining has failed the district. A presentation by the District Director, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Lamin Mbogba and statements from other stakeholders present formed the high point of the Kono Conference planning stakeholders meeting.
