Convict gets 13-years imprisonment for House Breaking

One Moses Kamanda was on Wednesday 21st September 2022, been convicted and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for conspiracy and house breaking contrary to the law of Sierra Leone.

The accused was arraigned before the court on two counts charge of Conspiracy to house breaking and house breaking to section 2 of the offense against the person act 1861.

The charge sheet indicated that the accused on 3rd March 2022 at Freetown entered into the house of the complainant and steal therein mobile phone valued at two million Leone and other items.

During a call-over ceremony held yesterday at the Freetown High Court Room No.1 the Justice Browne-Marke JCS pleaded guilty to a count charge of burglary and larceny.

The accused was charged with two counts of burglary and larceny, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

Addressing the Judge in a jam-packed court room, State Prosecutor A Jalloh noted that considering the fact that the accused had not wasted the time of the court by pleading guilty as charged, he would want the judge to give him a custodial sentence.

In her plea of mitigation for and on behalf of the accused, defence counsel C. Tucker, from the Legal Aid Board, also stressed that the accused did not waste the time of the court by admitting to his wrong doing, thus pleading with the presiding judge to temper justice with mercy, adding that the accused must have learnt his lesson.

Justice brown Mark JSC sentenced the accused to 13 years imprisonment.
