As the Fourah Bay College Students Union Election draws closer, one of the candidates for the presidential race revealed his plans for the students of Aureol in an exclusive interview on Wednesday 7th September, 2022.
Alfred Micah Sesay, former Minister of Education in the last Students Union Government led by Adama Sillah and now an aspirant for the forthcoming Students Union Election said his intention to run the race for the presidency is to respond to the collective calls of students on campus.
He added that he had accumulated loads of experiences at the time when he had led numerous leadership positions. He said he had overtime saw the problems and challenges students had been faced with whiles on campus.
“I have tried in my own little way to provide solutions to those problems we have”, Alfred Sesay said.
He disclosed that at this immediate time he understood the demands of the students’ populace especially in terms of leadership delivery and taking students affairs paramount.
Alfred Micah Sesay said his manifesto resonated with the views of the students in order to meet their demands. He said the manifesto captured five pillars which were robust advocacy, students welfare maximization, academic excellence, recreational activities, innovation and entrepreneurship and capacity building.
An extract approach of his manifesto stated that “The Students’ Manifesto is a manifesto that has been developed by the congregated views of students. This manifesto will succeed by involving every student in implementing plans, projects, and programmes laid out in this document regardless of department, faculty, or political affiliation, and in all cases without bias to any level of studies. We will create an environment for students to believe in and see this manifesto as theirs and support it in every way necessary. We will leverage every possible connection and collaboration to succeed as a team. We will create partnerships and networks for the implementation and actualization of the Students’ Manifesto. The Manifesto will prioritize dialogue, inclusion, and collaboration in all programmes and projects,”
Alfred Sesay revealed that his leadership would comprise of inclusion and better representation. One of his plans was to see that unity and interaction among students had grown in leaps and bounds thereby restoring dignify life of students on campus.
“The students are part of the implementation plan of my manifesto,” he affirmed.
He felt impressed when going into the race of the presidency as it had been the collaborative call from the student’s populace. He urged the students to stay off from all forms of violence and continue to enjoy the much-needed relationship the university had shared with students.
