In a bid to streamline the New Direction National Medium Term Development at community levels, Fambul Tok Sierra Leone has officially launched the integration pilot phase of the “Wan Fambul Framework” in lower Banta Chiefdom in Moyamba District.
The central goal of this initiative is to place local people at the centre of their activities which they want to implement instead of NGO planning for them which was the unusual modus operandi.
The Mamie Queen Baby Kaifala started by thanking Fambul Tok For implementing a such model which is geared towards fast-tracking sustainable peacebuilding for the progress of all within the Chiefdom.
In his contribution statement, the representative of the Vimetco Mining Company Mr Joseph Amara told the gathering that the launching was indeed welcoming news for them as the company has always been there to provide the necessary support toward the development of the chiefdom. He further stated that they would ensure that they continue to fulfill their corporate social responsibility obligations to the Chief.
In his statement, the Director of NGO affairs at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development Eric Masallay pointed out the roles of Fambul Tok in communities in terms of community engagement and peace building. He also urged community members to see themselves as partners of development for the growth of their localities rather than enemies. “We are making sure that there is an existing peace so that we can link community projects to that of the Chiefdom coordination centre in line with the national Medium Plans” He noted.
John Caulker, the Executive Director of the Fambul Tok reaffirmed that there would be no development without peace and stability. He also revealed that his organization has been mediating and resolving conflict among aggrieved frictions in lower Banta chiefdom which they have succeeded in for over two years now. He, therefore, urged stakeholders present to own the Peoples’ planning Process initiative for the betterment of their Chiefdom. The occasion was climaxed by forming a formidable committee which encompasses all relevant stakeholders in the Chiefdom.
