Police Headquarters, George Street Freetown, Thursday 15 September, 2022 Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu while addressing the National Executives of the Sierra Leone Commercial Motorbike Riders Union (SALCOMBRU) on the Central Business District (CBD) has informed that the Police do not want to have issues with them.

The lawless behavior of some commercial motorbikes riders he said was posing serious challenge and threat to the safety of pedestrians within the CBD.

He frown at the blatant disobeying of traffic rules by commercial motorbikes riders within the CBD which has led to many road crashes involving especially pupils.

The Police CEO told the SALCOMBRU executives that they have a civic responsibility to caution their members against plying the CBD stressing that riding is better in the outskirts.

“CDB is a prohibited area for commercial motorbikes, go and tell your members to desist from entering there or risk apprehension” he said, disclosing that come Saturday 17 September, 2022, the police would launch an operation to get rid of commercial motorbikes within CBD.

However, in his magnanimity, the Police Chief removed Wilkinson road from being part of CBD.

Director of Traffic Management and Road Safety, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Brima Kanneh earlier stated that he brought SALCOMBRU executives due to their refusal to sign a communique on the enforcement and implementation of the Saturday operation.

According to the Director, SALCOMBRU picked out Wilkinson road as not being part of CBD in the past but was prohibited for a certain period because of some foreign diplomats.

President of SALCOMBRU, Umaru T Bah in his contribution discloses that their visit was to have a clarification on Wilkinson road, reiterating the Traffic Director.

He also pleaded for the use of signposts to distinguish CBD from other areas for his constituents.

On behalf of the team, he hailed the IGP for his exemplary leadership which they said is making positive things happening for the first time in history.

The SALCOMBRU executive includes President, Umaru T Bah, Secretary General, John SK Banya, PRO, Mohamed AT Nabiue, Regional Chairman, Ishmael Sandy, Anthony Kpulun and others.
