Sierra Leone Beach Volleyball federation female team on 2nd September 2022 defeated their Guinean counterparts in Zonal Beach Volleyball Championship in Palmariama Beach Coast in The Gambia Banjul.
The Sierra Leone team pair of Fatimata Binta Bah and Gladys Maria Fofanah are the two that represent Sierra Leone in the zonal Championships and the Competition is to last for three days. The two athletes started racing in the championship defeating their troublesome Neighbour from Guinea by two sets to zero (21:3, 21:8).
After the matches, their head coach Bernadette Fofanah expressed relief for the outstanding performance of the team in their first matches, noting that she was worried at the start of the match because it was her first outing with the ladies as head coach and with this performance highly optimism that they are now sure of getting laurels for Sierra Leone in Championship.
The two athletes were part of the Sierra Leone team that represented the Country in Morocco and put up an outstanding performance in the tournament and now they have started another encouraging performance in the zonal championship. The Sierra Leone Female team is ranked 120 in the World Ranking along with other top Africa Countries, there is going to be a massive boost after the tournament in the Gambia in the latest Ranking and Africa.
With both male and female teams playing this morning for a place in the finals of the Zonal Beach Volleyball Championships in Banjul, Sierra Leone’s female duo continued their winning run with a two sets win over host Gambia (21:09, 21:12) to clinch top spot and a semi-finals place. One more match and a medal is assured.
The male team had mixed results winning their first match against Guinea and losing to Gambia team one (2:0 – 21:17, 21:17).
A quarter finals fixture is their next battle against Senegal later in the day.
Meanwhile, the Zonal Beach Tournament received in audience the President of the CAVB to witness the finals and the Annual General Meeting of the Zone.
