On Thursday 1st September 2022, a team of police officers from both Motema and Tankoro division together with military personnel from 9 infantry battalion Simbakoro koidu were deployed at the Wahalum border between Kono and Tonkolili district to monitor the movement of people entering and going out of the district and to ensure the district maintain its peace.
According to the Deputy Media and Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone Police , ASP Mohamed Bobson Senu, on the same day , Chief Inspector Anthony Kpassipo Commander in charge attached to the newly erected security check point at Waleihun Village, Nimiyama Chiefdom, Kono District, arrested and brought in Ishmael Kamara a motorbike rider of Fothaneh-Tama Village, Konikay Chiefdom, Tonkolili District and reported that on the above date,
He added that the latter was intercepted at the said check point with a black,”Back Pack” bag containing a dismantled locally made shotgun, ten (10) shotgun bullets, one (1) dagger, one (1) matchete (cutlass), one (1) arcksaw and few men’s wearing.
ASP Senu said that whilst being interrogated on the spot about the said items, the suspect revealed that the bag belongs to the pillion who immediately escaped into a nearby bush without giving particulars of himself.
According him, the rider stated that he only came in contact with the said pillion on September 1 (1/9/2022) at “One bode” village, Konikay Chiefdom, Tonkolili District to be conveyed to Ndogboi Village, Nimiyama Chiefdom, Kono District on hire at the cost of NLe 20.00. The name and address of the escaped pillion are yet unknown.
The suspect is in custody and an investigation is in progress.
