The Consortium of Civil Societies on Accountability and Good Governance Sierra Leone (CCSAGG.SL) has condemned the August 10th terrorism against the state and urged citizens to desist from seeking redress through violent means.
“CCSAGG.SL IS gravely concerned about the unfortunate events of violence in Freetown and another part of the country yesterday. From reports gathered by the consortium so far, innocent lives have been lost, and many wounded including the destruction of properties in the North as a result of the unfortunate faceless demonstration by some Set of people”, the release states.
It continues that has enjoyed 20 years of peace since the end of the senseless Civil war thus, it is the responsibility of every Sierra Leonean to ensure that peace is maintained at all costs.
CCSAGG.SL also calls on all citizens to desist from using violence as a means of communicating with the government or seeking redress. CCSAGG.SL also calls on all citizens to inculcate the habit of using lawful means to resolve whatever grievance they may have against the state.
It furthers that the CCSAGG.SL would also want to remind all and sundry that citizens have the civic responsibility to uphold the hard-earned peace the country enjoys. As ECOWAS urged the government to launch an instantaneous investigation, CCSAGG.SL also reiterates that timely calls by ECOWAS so that perpetrators and inciters are expeditiously brought to the book for possible legal actions. As negotiation and dialogue on the way, CCSAGG.SL assures that as a consortium, they are ready to engage the people through civic engagement to prevent future occurrences.
The Press Statement concludes that as government and international partners facilitate the dialogue process, they urge all citizens of Sierra Leone to remain calm and peaceful. CCSAGG.SL also extends its profound sympathy to the family members, who lost their loved ones during the violence,
