The Sierra Leone National home-based team on 27th July 2022 progressed for a tie with Mali in the final phase of the TotalEnergies 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Algeria 2022 Qualifiers following a 3-2 win on aggregate over the Blue sharks of Cape Verde.

Sierra Leone had won 2:0 last weekend before losing by 2:1 on the 27th of July 2022 in the two-legged tie against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.

East End Lions young striker Alie Conteh scored both goals for Sierra Leone in the first leg while his clubmate and former Bo Rangers winger Prince Barrie volleyed in the only but crucial goal for his side during the first half of the encounter.

Leone Stars ‘B’ shall host the Eagles of Mali on the weekend of 26th, 27th and 28th August 2022 in the first leg whiles the reversed fixture shall play on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th September 2022.

Leone Stars National home-based side was eliminated by Senegal (4-2) on aggregate during the 2018 African Nations Championship qualifiers. The West Africa we’re ineligible for the 2020 tournament due to FIFA sanction.

The tournament was last won by Morocco for second time after overcoming Mali (2-0) in a thrilling final at Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde on February 7th 2020 in Cameroon.

The winner of the said tie will progress to the final tournament in Algeria, in January 2023
