Plans are under way by the Kono Students Union (KSU) to donate learning materials to the best performing pupils that sat to this year’s National Primary School Examination (NPSE) in Kono District.
This was disclosed by the President of the aforementioned union Augusta Sheku when delivering a statement at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected students executive board of the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTEC) Kono Campus on Monday 11th July, 2022.
She further maintained that they were going to target the best performing pupils that got an aggregate of three hundred and above which will qualify them to gain the said learning materials.
She noted that Kono District occupied eight position with eighty two point one zero percent (82.10% rate) for this year’s NPSE.
Concluding she advised students of the University to be law abiding in order to help achieve the plans of the students Union Government as togetherness brings unity, love, development and prosperity. She added that they should be aware of giving maximum respect to their leaders as leadership comes from God noting that what goes around surely comes around.
“With a pure heart and sincere mind set of myself, I give you this staff today to carry as a mantle of leadership in this University that comprises different people. Even though it is not an easy task for a man to relinquish power but I have to because of the well-constructed constitution of this great university”, Ibrahim Sahr James said.
On his part, the newly elected governor Aiah Francis Fanday foremost thanked God Almighty for such opportunity to serve in the position of governorship of the university. He said having such position has been part of his dream especially when he has served in different positions since he entered the University in 2019 to date.
He noted the election as Governor for the Students Union Government 2022 is not a mistake or magic but a dream come through. The Governor elect outlined three key things he was going to work with together with his deputy Governor Kadiatu Saw Jawara including his Ministers so that those three things are achievable at the end of his tenure. According to him, the following three keys his government was going to work on include: Students and University unionism, Transparency and accountability and to make the union enviable.
He said his responsibility is to serve as a mediator between the executive board and the students so that mutual respect and understanding for the development of the University is at played.
On behalf of other students Hawa Borway and Almamy Yusu Kabba expressed delight for the composition and calibre of the students Union inaugurated.
They promised to pledge their fullest support to the Union for the betterment of the university and themselves as students.
