The first batch of Participants representing Sierra Leone in the Commonwealth Games on 22nd July 2022 touched down in Midlands, Birmingham safely after eight hours of travel.
According to the report, the team has now secured the respective hotels and preparations are now on the way for kick-off with the Officials’ opening ceremony. The 22nd Commonwealth Games were organized mainly for the Commonwealth nations and will commence on Thursday, 28th July 2022.
England is hosting the Commonwealth Games for the third with the recent one coming in Manchester in 2012. They were the first to host the games in 1934.
Sierra Leone delegation has high anticipation as 39 athletes taken from (9) disciplines yearn for medals. Their previous outing has been with miss feeling as some athletes struggle to perform to expectations due to a lack of sporting facilities and training grounds with professional standards were among the key challenges affecting Sierra Leone.
Unisia Deen Kargbo the Chef de mission at the National Sports Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone said on their arrival they will have to do a Covid-19 test after that they will be taken to the Games Village to start preparations ahead of the Commonwealth Games Kickoff, adding that all athletes have been tested before departing to Birmingham and even the games kits have been given to all the athletes so that the team will be Uniform as a nation.
