During the administering of an oath of Office for the newly elected Member of Parliament Hon. Jaward Sesay of constituency 056 Tonkolili District, the Leader of the Main Opposition Hon. Chernor Bah, has yesterday the 13th of July 2022, lavished praises on the Chief Electoral Commissioner Mohamed Konneh for a successful and credible conduct of the Tonkolili by-election.
The Leader of Opposition, Hon. Chernor R.M. Bah also used the opportunity to welcome the new Member of Parliament and thanked the Electoral Commission for the conduct of the bye-election. He reiterated credit for a conduct of the free and fair elections should to the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone. He also asked all and sundry to support the institution and equally encouraged colleague Members of Parliament to be patriotic in the debates.
Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, also gave a red carpet welcome to the new Member of Parliament, and equally applauded the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone. He re-echoed statement made by the Leader of the Opposition commending the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone for a free and fair elections. Hon. Mathew Nyuma expressed hope for a friendly working relation with the new Member of Parliament and also encouraged the New Member of Parliament to work in the interest of the state.
The Speaker of the Fifth Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu, also joined members in welcoming the New Member of Parliament. In fact he alluded to the new Member of Parliament as his” last born son” through the end of the Parliamentary session, and particularly felt elated by the felicitation lavished on the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone by the Main Opposition. The Speaker therefore, continued by encouraging the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone to continue the good work and also craved the indulgence of Parliament to support the independence of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone.
“I hereby declare that Jaward Sesay of constituency 056 of Tonkolili District has been elected as Member of Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone. pursuant to section 83 of the constitution of Sierra Leone, Act No. 6 of 1991, I hereby invite the Clerk of Parliament to administer the oath of office Member of Parliament as established in the third schedule”, he declared.
The sitting was climaxed with a Dilatory Motion for the suspension of debate on the 2022 Public Elections Act which was moved by the Leader of Government Business Hon. Mathew Nyuma, and was seconded by the Deputy Leader of Government Business Hon. Bashiru Silikie.
