Bashiru Koroma, Kono District ventinary officer attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry have disclosed that four people have died after been bitten by dogs in Koidu city, kono district.
Mr. Koroma maintained that the reported dog bites is as a result of passerby’s pelting stones at dogs especially lactating ones, noting as a defensive measure the dogs have no option but to bite strange people around them.
The Kono district ventinary officer further expressed dismay over what he called the nonchalant attitude of some people to vaccinate their domestic animals especially dogs and cats which the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry does on free of cost basis.
He said dog bites are of most times fatal especially when they are infected with rabies and therefore urged people to treat the vaccination exercise which will commence on the first July 2022 for free of cost.
While encouraging people with domestic animals especially dog and cat to be visiting their office for the free of cost. Koroma strictly advised that for any dog bites, the victims should not be delayed to be rushed to the hospital or any health facilities for prompt medication; as rabies kills.
He discouraged people not to be keeping dogs without caring for them as it is one of the recipes for avoiding the increase of dog bites in the district.
Meanwhile, some residents of Koidu City have described the increase of dog bites as a revenge by the dogs themselves owing to the rate at which some people do refer to them as ‘Ghana goats’ for consumption purpose.
