The Association of Retired Principals has called on the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education to run a workshop and form a committee to look into the high spate of examination malpractice in Sierra Leone.
According to the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Sylvester Meheaux, the committee should report its findings, two weeks before the start of the Basic Entrance Certificate Examination (BECE) on July 25th. He said some of the experiences they got as a result of observing the previous WASSCE was appalling adding that strong action must be taken at this point in time to stop exam malpractice.
“This is not about politics, it is about returning the country to its past glory as the Athens of West Africa,” said the retired Principal.
He said proper monitoring and evaluation should not be left out to avert the occurrence of malpractice right in the exam halls.
He said the Ministry should improve on supervision.
He said senior teachers should be the ones invigilating because of their vast experience not teachers who might not even have a pin code.
Mr. Meheaux expressed his dissatisfaction over the dress code of some candidates adding that a bag full of telephones was confiscated from them at Wellington. He called on the Ministry to ban compulsory school lessons.
Mr. Meheaux served as Principal at Government Rokel Secondary school for decades having contributed immensely to the educational sector.
He has vast knowledge about the educational sectors of the Gambia, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
