The incident of cattle rearers violating human rights in protecting their herds has become worrisome and a pregnant woman from Batkanu is a victim.
The lady was reportedly in her farm at Makrimu village when two cattle rearers went with the cattle graze around her farm. She is said to have driven the cattle away from feeding on her crops.
The action of the lady enraged the cattle rearers and they started flogging with a cattle tail. As she ran away she reportedly fell on the ground. Her husband from nearby heard her yelling and rushed to the scene to rescue his pregnant wife.
The husband Alimamy Conteh said he had not wanted to take the law into his hand and therefore reported the matter to the Makeni Police where the pregnant woman was provided a medical paper to go the hospital. A-Z Newspaper has gathered that no arrest has been made.
The pregnant woman is said to have been admitted for three days in a hospital. Community members say the cattle rearers have become a law onto themselves and enjoy the protection of the Police. One resident say if it was a report from the cattle rearers the Police could have swiftly acted on it.
PC Bai Yankay of Batkanu is said to be one of the cattle owners and acknowledge the beating of the pregnant woman but said the incident took place distant away from he resides.
In similar development, Kono Youth have reportedly stated their intention of protesting against the human rights abuses of cattle rearers.
