SLCA Names 20 Players for Team Workouts

The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) Selection Committee has named 20 female players to start team training ahead of the ICC Women’s U-19 Division 2 Africa Qualifiers to be hosted in Botswana in September this year.

Already, ICC has released fixtures concerning the tournament. Sierra Leone Women’s U-19 Team is in group B together with Namibia, Uganda, and host country Botswana, whilst Group A comprises Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Malawi, and Mozambique. Two teams are to qualify from each group for the semi-final.

The Ladies, over thirty of them, commenced preparation three months ago until the number is trimmed down to 20.

 Those named will continue training until a few days before departure, where a final list of 14, comprising the best of players, will be announced.

 The 14 players will depart for Botswana on 1st September 2022 to get ready for the ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifiers which will start on 3rd September 2022 and end on the 13th of the same month.

 The current selection will solidify preparation by taking part in the upcoming female national club league to kick off soon.

 For the U-19 Boys, the Selection Committee will announce the shortlisted names of 20 players on Wednesday 29th June 2022.  This will be in preparation for the ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifiers to take place in Abuja Nigeria on 21st -2nd October 2022.

For the Abuja showpiece, Sierra Leone lies in group B together with host countries Nigeria, Botswana, and Rwanda. Group A consists of Kenya, Malawi, Ghana, and Mozambique. The two top teams in each group will qualify for the semi-final. The Champion and the runner-up will make it to the Division 1 qualifying tournament.
