The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) ODD U-17 Boys Championship League has safely screeched to a halt with Momofoe Kpundeh Cricket Club emerging as the champions.
Four teams participated in the ODD home and away from the championship, lasting for three weeks with boys posting smashing results at the POW Cricket Oval and the Police grounds.
Momofoe Kpundeh took first place, followed by Cyril Panda Cricket Club in the runner-up position. Haroun Kamara Cricket Club came third whilst Alex Kinny Musa held fourth place.
The teams are named after fallen heroes who achieved uncommon favors to polish talents and to help reorient the course of cricket.
The champions, Momofoe Kpundeh, won five matches and only lost one with 10 points to achieve a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.753.
Cyril Panda retired with 8 points out of 6 matches played to settle for 0.136 NRR.
Haroun, with 4 points, had an NRR of -0.309 whilst Alex Kinny finished with 2 points and scored an NRR of -0.579.
The ODD Under-17 Boys Championship was organized to guide the SLCA in the selection of teams for the upcoming ICC Division 2 World Cup Qualifier scheduled for September this year in Nigeria.
The climax of this engagement has helped technical officers to trim down the number of players to 25 in readiness for another intensive workout.
Plans are underway to camp the team out of Freetown and to hire the service of a foreign coach to supervise the training.
For the records, the ODD Under-17 Boys Championship has marked the third domestic league the SLCA has organized since the start of 2022.
The first one brought about the Sierra Leone Men’s T20 Premier League, which was won by the Sierra Leone Police Cricket Club, followed by Mid-West Cricket Club in the second.
The second was the Sierra Leone T20 Division 1 League won by newcomers Special Line Cricket Club, with Wanderers Cricket Club in the second place.
Meanwhile, the SLCA is also preparing the U-19 female team for the ICC Africa U-19 World cup qualifiers to be held in Botswana in September 2022.
