The incessant increment in the price of petroleum products has brought business in the transportation sector in Kono District to a standstill.
This is according to the acting chairman of the motor Drivers union Kono District, Tamba Alpha when responding to the question why a good number of commercial vehicles are tentatively packed at the main Konomanyi lorry park in Koidu City without plying.
Tamba Alpha maintained that for the past three days commercial vehicle drivers had found it very difficult to embark on their normal business because of the incessant increment in the price of petroleum products which has contributed to the slight change of transport fare. As a result, the normal huge turnout of passengers has drastically reduced thereby flooding the said park with jam-packed vehicles without travellers.
He expressed dismay over the attitude of some fuel dealers for doing business with selective individuals and organizations rather than commercial vehicle drivers who facilitate the movement of every business for the benefit of all and sundry.
According to the acting chairman Motor Drivers Union Kono District a litre of fuel in the black market is sold twenty two or twenty four thousand Leones whilst the filling stations are constantly closed to the public a situation he described as very unfortunate.
Meanwhile, up to press time some filling stations in Koidu City have reportedly started selling a litre of fuel twenty thousand Leones.
