Sierra Leone Senior National team Leone Stars has on 14th June safely return home after their two opening matches in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria in Abuja and Guinea Bissau in Conakry Guinea.
The Leone Stars lost their first AFCON match opener against the super Eagles Nigeria by (2-1) and had to settle to a (2-2) all draw against Guinea Bissau in Conakry Guinea as the two matches they were only able to grab a point, as it stands Nigeria started their campaign with 100% winning with all their two matches, while Guinea Bissau has won one and drew one and Leone Stars have one point and lost one.
The delegation comprised the Minister of Sports and the team, the SLFA President and the team, and other government officials, most of the foreign-based players returned to their various clubs from Conakry, and some of them joined the delegation to Freetown.
Leone Stars have a huge task in their next four remaining matches but they have two matches on September 19th, 2022 against Sao Tome Principe and the returned leg match to be played. Sierra Leone needs to win all those matches if they are to keep their hope alive in the ongoing qualifiers and pray Nigeria won all two matches against Guinea Bissau.
