The line manager at the family support unit Tankoro Police Divisional headquarters in Koidu City, Deputy Superintendent of police Sahr Denis Gborie has said that domestic violence and child abuse are the most reported cases at his unit. Explaining how children’s right are abused according to the reports so far made, the Tankoro police divisional headquarters family support unit boss maintained that parents especially fathers most time deliberately refuse to provide food for their family members especially the children, noting that for domestic violence forceful marriages of underage girls are the root causes of the related domestic violence so far reported of.

The family support unit boss at the Tankoro Police Division pointed out with dismay that the interventions of community stakeholders with cultural and traditional norms that forbid women to report their husbands at the police stations is seriously affecting their operations. He said the interpretation of the cultural and traditional norms by the community stakeholders state that any woman who reports her husband to the police station will have unsuccessful children and as a result many women prefer the culture of silence to the idea of reporting their husbands for their wrong doings.

 Meanwhile as a way of cementing the working relationship between the community people and the police especially personnel of the family support unit, Deputy Superintendent of police Sahr Denis Gborie noted that their work of them is to maintain peace and order.

He therefore called on all and sundry especially women and children to report all kinds of sexual and domestic violence related issues at the family support unit for amicable redress.
