Sierra Leone has joined other countries the world over to celebrate this year’s world environment day on the 5thjune, 2022 with the theme “one planet”.

The regional manager Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Kono District Ishmael Jalloh in an interview with A-Z maintained that the day is set aside every year to raise awareness on how people should properly take care of their environment thereby making it friendly.

Mr. Jalloh pointed out that EPA as the major custodian of natural resources on earth, it is the Agency’s fundamental responsibility to protect the earth from depleting hence it is impossible to recover it.

He pleaded with all and sundry to promote the idea of planting trees.“ for miners I expect you to reclaim dug out mining pits so that drowning and other social and health implications will be the things of the past in Kono District.

The regional manager environment protection Agency (EPA) Kono District emphasised that drought and other disaster related issues in the district and the country as a whole cannot be unconnected with the rampant cutting down of trees for domestic and timber purposes.

In a separate development, impeccable information reaching our news desk state that a deputy minister from Kono District has been accused of facilitating the beating of his wife.

The impeccable information maintained that police at the family support unit at the Tankoro police station have started probing into the said matter.
